Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth to Launch Digital Excellence Program for Minority Entrepreneurs in

collaboration with Google

Delivering the tools for businesses of all sizes and backgrounds to thrive in the digital landscape


HANOVER, N.H., May 6, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth announces the launch of its inaugural Digital Excellence Program for Minority Entrepreneurs, sponsored by Google. The program aims to provide entrepreneurs from minority and underrepresented communities with the skills and knowledge they need to leverage digital technologies to grow their business.

The Digital Excellence Program for Minority Entrepreneurs, developed by Tuck and hosted at Google's Cambridge, MA office, takes place June 8-10 and will be led by Tuck Strategy Professor Alva Taylor. A second iteration of the program is planned for September 2015.

"The digital landscape has transformed the way we do business," said Taylor, an expert in innovation, technological change, and new product development and Faculty Director of Tuck's Glassmeyer/McNamee Center for Digital Strategies. "The emergence of new technologies has not only created unprecedented access to data, but it also offers tremendous growth opportunities for businesses of all sizes and backgrounds."

Sessions at the three-day program range from constructing a digital strategy and marketing businesses online to managing a digital community. The program will also include intensive sessions on analytics. Participants will have one-on-one access to Google experts, who will consult and present on topics including website design, search engine optimization, and successful digital business models.

Google is also offering the Digital Excellence Program as a benefit to participants of its recently launched Small Business Supplier Diversity Program. "In addition to connecting more small and diverse businesses to procurement opportunities at Google, we're providing access to web education resources like Tuck's Digital Excellence Program to help these businesses grow online and be successful working with any company," says Chris Genteel, Google's Head of Diversity Markets and Supplier Diversity.

"Entrepreneurs need to be aware of the wide array of digital business tools and strategies to help grow their businesses," added Taylor. "Collaborating with Google on this hands-on program and inviting successful practitioners to show participants how to leverage technology is a great addition to Tuck's portfolio of minority business education programs."

Along with Tuck faculty, the Digital Excellence Program for Minority Entrepreneurs will also feature practitioner coaches who will share best practices and case studies from their own experiences. One of them—Ideal Shield President Linzie Venegas—is a Tuck minority business program graduate. The Michigan-based certified MBE company manufactures bumper posts, guardrails, and other safety and protection products.

Alva Taylor is the faculty director of the Glassmeyer/McNamee Center for Digital Strategies and an associate professor at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. His research focuses on technological change; business model and new product innovation; entrepreneurship; and strategic decision-making in fast-changing environments.
